PARKING

There is a Northumberland County Council carpark on the parade that has disabled parking spaces and EV vehicle charging capabilities.

The car park is free to use with a NCC parking disk and between the hours of 8am - 6pm you can park for 3 hours. Outside of these times parking is free.

ACCESSIBILITY

Every effort is being made to make The Straw Yard site as accessible as possible so that everyone can enjoy the space. At this time (Autumn - Winter 2024) there are no steps required to access the site and the outdoor space and JM Wilson Studio are wheelchair accessible. There are parts of the outdoor space that are not yet wheelchair accessible but we are working to rectify this over the coming months.

We do not currently have accessible toilet facilities although we are looking at options for the future. Please be aware that the site is a heritage site and as such we are limited by what can be actioned in the short term.

If you would like further information about the site and how we can meet your accessibility requirements please do not hesitate to get in touch.

TOILET FACILITIES

We have two full-enclosed gender neutral toilets that are for use by site users only and only open when events are taking place.

We do not currently have accessible toilet facilities although we are looking at options for the future. Please be aware that the site is a heritage site and as such we are limited by what can be actioned in the short term.

There are accessible public toilets in the vicinity provided and maintained by Northumberland County Council. For more information and locations please visit the NCC Website.

SMOKING & VAPING

Every part of The Straw Yard (both inside and outside) is a no-smoking and no-vaping area. Smokers and vapers are able to smoke outside of the site gates on public land but once inside the site we ask that the no-smoking/no-vaping rule is respected.

SECURITY & BEHAVIOUR

Every part of The Straw Yard site is covered by 24 hour CCTV and monitored at all times.

We prioritise the safety and comfort of our staff and site users above all else and any person who acts in a manner that threatens or recklessly endangers others will be asked to leave and barred from returning. No criminal activity, threatening or hatred based behaviour will be tolerated on site and we will co-operate fully with authorities to ensure that those acting in such a manner will be prosecuted.

FIRE SAFETY

A Fire Risk Assessment has been prepared and is available to all site users upon request. All keyholders and Front of House Managers must be given a copy of the Fire Risk Assessment and sign a declaration to say that they have read and understood its contents.

Below you will find Fire Evacuation Routes for the site. These diagrams also have details of Fire Alarms and Fire Extinguishers one site.

The Straw Yard is a pleasant and safe environment in which to be creative and host events. By familiarising yourself with the risk and risk mitigation along with evacuation routes you will be helping to ensure a safe space for everyone to enjoy.
